General Announcements:
  • Mon., 10/18: River Cleanup! As part of Science and our study of river ecology, the Prisms will be picking up trash near the Mill River. Come join us, either from 12:40-1:45, or 1:45-3pm , or both of these times.
  • Wed., 10/27: Día de los muertos: Join us for a pot-luck Day of the Dead celebration from 6:30 to 8 PM in the All-School Space.

  • We need tissues! Cold season is upon us and we need nice tissues for sore noses. If every Prism family donated one box of tissues, that would almost certainly get us through the worst of tissue season.
  • Fridays: Bring sneakers, clothes to run in and water bottle for Frisbee!
Math:
  • Grade 7 & 8
    • Due Mon., 10/18:
      • Complete Math's Mate 1.5 according to usual protocol, highlights of which include:
        • No calculators
        • Show work for * problems on separate paper
        • Complete any N/A problems from 1.4 on attached sheet
    • Mon., 10/18: Math's Mate mid-term test: The best studying you can do is to work attentively on this weekend's sheet and note any topics that are sticky for you and ask for more help with them.
Social Studies:
  • Ongoing: Continue collecting resources about the Connecticut River during your group's time period.
Science:
  • Due Mon., 10/18: Bring a change of clothes to wear during or after the river cleanup and a towel. Be ready to get muddy!
Language Arts:
  • Due Mon., 10/18:
    • complete the first draft of the well-developed paragraph begun in class. Also, revise it and then edit it. All revisions and edits are to appear on the first draft. Therefore, write the paragraph on only one side of the paper so there is space to add revisions as necessary or skip lines as you write the first draft.

      • 7B: Complete 1.1B and follow-up using your data from the bouncing ball experiment.

    • Due Fri., 10/15: Complete graphing a, b, and c tables on p. 27. Also, do 2.4 on p. 21 (Graph paper is available if you need it for your approach).

  • Due Fri., 10/15: Library resources you've collected or a note from a parent describing your library research process so far.

Language Arts:

    • Apply the Venn Diagram approach as used in class to analyze, compare and contrast the settings of Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry and "Marigolds". Use the resource made in class and bring it back with homework to Friday's class

  • Due Wed., 10/13: In group project packet, answer #1, fill out local library's weekly scehdule and when you will be going there before Friday.

  • Due Thurs., 10/14: In complete sentences, answer a, b, c and d on the Food Web worksheet; answer on separate paper.

Seeing Yourself in a New Light

A rare optic sight, the “Brocken spectre,” which occurs when a person stands at a higher altitude in the mountains and sees his shadow cast on a cloud at a lower altitude, was observed in the Tatra Mountains in Zakopane, Poland, Thursday. That or it's Bigfoot. It can be hard to tell.
