1857 Dred Scott Decision by U.S. Supreme Court Big Ideas:
  1. Negroes are inferior class of beings, subjugated by the dominant race;
  2. Slaves are property; property is protected by Constitution;
  3. Missouri Compromise - saying where slavery was/wasn't allowed - is unconstitutional.
