General Announcements:
  • If you ever notice something missing or wrong on the blog, comment to let me know about it - I don't always have the whole picture. -Grace
  • Friday, 1/21: All School field trip to Martin Luther King, Jr. Charter School of Excellence in Springfield. Buses will be leaving promptly at 8:45 am. Prisms need to bring a lunch with them - regular hot lunch/pizza will not be available, nor will microwave access.
  • Yoga Fridays - No yoga this Friday, 1/21 — we're spending the whole day at MLK Charter School in Springfield!
  • Eighth Grade Project resource page up, including project deadlines through Jan. 12 and downloadable documents. Page will be updated as I get new information.

Math:
  • All:
    • Due Thurs., 1/20: Complete Math's Mates 2.5 according to usual protocol. No N/A problems this week — N/A problems for both 2.4 and 2.5 will be attached to 2.6 next week.
    • Math's Mates Mid-term 2 test coming up end of next week or beginning of the following week.

Language Arts:
  • Due Thurs., 1/20: LA/Tech presentations by those who did not present last week. Be rehearsed for your oral presentation of essay ideas. Have your intro & conclusion completed and woven into your presentation with your visual media in Tech.

Social Studies:
  • Nada

Science:
  • Due Thurs., 1/20:
    • Make illustrated cover for the science unit we are completing — your cover must include the title, "Succession and Evolution" at the top, and a ½ page color illustration relating to our study.
    • Write a 1¶ summary of our study. Include how your understanding of evolution changed. Consider the following activities:
      • Yum-yum experiment
      • Darwin documentary
      • readings about evolution in textbook
      • your story about succession from the rock's point-of-view
      • your illustrated story of succession

Guide to Puzzling Architecture, #218: Kijk Kubus


Kijk Kubus, a business and apartment complex in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, was designed in the early 1980s by architect Piet Blom, who saw, "[his design] as a tree and the entire complex as a forest." Sure, Piet. If you're ever in Rotterdam, one of the cubes is set aside for public visitors.
