MOMENT OF ZEN: 

On this day, 102 years ago in 1913, women marched in Washington DC for their right to vote. The march featured about 8000 marchers, bands, mounted brigades and 26 floats. The day was not without controversy. The organizers made the African American suffragists march in the back so as not to upset Southern voters who might otherwise give their support to the women's right to vote (although notable exception and super cool lady Ida B. Wells defied the rule and marched up front with the Illinois delegation anyway). In the middle of the march they met a group of men who yelled, threw things, and were only stopped by the National Guard after 200 marchers were injured.

Women would not gain the vote in this country for another six years.
